Jonathan Simkin, PhD

Data and analytics leader with a PhD in epidemiology. I build and lead across applied AI and ML, population-scale data systems, and the research and reporting they make possible, mostly in healthcare and other high-stakes settings.

My recent work is applied AI: NLP and language-model systems running in production inside a provincial health system. But the through-line is broader. I transform the data systems health care depends on, turn what they hold into evidence people act on, and lead the teams that do both. My training in epidemiology keeps careful inference and scientific rigor underneath all of it.

• 01 AI & ML in production Current focus NLP and language models doing real work in a health system, from classifying diagnostic and clinical reports to automating data collection, with the evaluation and monitoring that make them trustworthy.
• 02 Health data systems Transforming population-scale surveillance systems: cloud data environments, real-time data feeds, national standards, and directing the teams that run them.
• 03 Data to insight Statistics, study design, and reporting that health systems act on, from cancer statistics to cluster investigations. Honest uncertainty, not just point estimates.
• 04 Population health research Population oncology, spatial epidemiology, and health equity. Peer-reviewed work on screening access, geographic inequity, and language models in cancer surveillance.
